The name “Rice Bowl Mission” comes from a traditional act of setting aside part of what you have for the good of others.
As in many parts of the world, rice is the staple food in Myanmar. In some parts of Myanmar, women will often take a handful of rice from their family’s food supply and place it in a special container, set aside for those less fortunate than themselves. Even though this means that they will have a little less to eat, they know that they will be helping others who have even less than they do.
The rice is then distributed around the community by the church to those in need.
What a great example of practical love and practical service addressing a very concrete need.
Thus, the name “Rice Bowl Mission”.
